Teacher Bio: Amy Bowman

Members of the UVU Wolverine Fund participate in a photo session in the studio at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2019. (Gabriel Mayberry, UVU Marketing)Amy has been dancing since she could walk. After spending her early years taking a variety of classes including ballet, tap, and figure skating, she fell in love with Irish dancing at age 12. She trained under several Irish dance schools on the west coast, before joining the southern region and Niall O’Leary School of Irish Dance in December 2020.

In 2012, Amy co-founded and ran a company in Boise, Idaho for 6 years called 5.6.7.8 Irish Dance. This group was a performance-only Irish dance group with a focus on sharing Irish dance and culture with the treasure valley. In addition to unique performance numbers and fusion pieces that merged Irish dance with other styles, they also challenged their students to learn bits of Irish history and language before allowing them to move on to the next class and difficulty level. The performance company grew to over 40 students before closing their doors in 2018 so both founders could attend college full-time. She graduated Cum Laude from Utah Valley University with a B.S. in Entrepreneurship, an A.S. in Business Management, and a minor in Marketing.

While she enjoys being on stage herself, her favorite thing to do is teach, design modern team dances, and watch her students grow as dancers and as people. She currently resides in Gulfport, Mississippi and is dancing and teaching along the gulf coast under Niall O’Leary. Amy has been making her way through the grades exams with the end goal to take her TCRG exam within the next several years.
